Not The Piggy Flu

We started the weekend with this:

My 5 year old son has the flu. He is feeling pretty much back to normal already, which is amazing considering he had a 104 fever on Friday and was not coherent at all. He kept saying things that made no sense and it would have been very funny if it hadn't been sort of scary. Now that he is fine, it is hysterical though. At one point he was mumbling something and I didn't understand it so I asked him what he said. He then very clearly said "oh crap" and fell back asleep.

He slept in my bed and got up several times at night very confused. At one point, his pajamas were soaked with sweat so I took them off of him and had him sleep in his underwear. When he woke up a few hours later, he got out of bed, wandered around my room looking all confused and when I asked what he was doing he said "I'm just in my underwear". He didn't remember anything that happened earlier at all. I explained the situation and why he was in his underwear, put some new pajamas on him and he went back to sleep. A few hours later, he woke up and said "man am I thirsty". He took a huge drink and then went back to sleep again. Because he slept almost all day Friday, when he woke up on Saturday morning he sat up and said "I'm not tired anymore. I think that's because I got so much sleep". It was 4 am when he decided it was time for him to get up for the day. After he had been up several times in the night. He may have been well rested but I was pretty tired!

By Sunday, his fever was pretty much gone and he was feeling well enough to try the new Slip 'N Slide surf thing that his sister and brother got for their birthday. Actually, they got gift certificates and instead of spending them individually, they put them together and bought this one big thing they both wanted. I need to tell you that even though it looks super cool, do not buy this. First of all, our yard is so hilly that we had to set it up several times before we found a place that would work. Even then, it didn't fill correctly so we could only use about half of it. I thought it was way too difficult but I think that is because I was afraid of getting hurt so I didn't run very fast before I jumped on.This is me about half a second before I fell. I had been taking pictures of the kids because it was pretty funny so I guess they thought it was only fair to take one of me falling. My 9 year old son was awesome at it. He still fell sometimes but I think because he really went for it every time, when he did have success it was awesome.

We picked some strawberries for a snack.
The whole time we were eating them I kept saying "we grew these". I think I was the only one who found that exciting. If you knew my track record for keeping plants alive inside the house, you would find it amazing that outside I can grow actual food you can eat.

Switching topics, I am still waiting for a surgery date. It is pretty difficult to find a day that works for both the oncologist and my gynecologist and is also a day/time that there is an operating room available. I will keep you posted and let you know when I find out. I just want it to be over so I don't have to worry about it anymore!

Goodness, I am glad your son is feeling better! There was a swine flu patient identified in E.'s office...he has promised to wash his hands extra-well. :)
I love the pic of you on the slippy slide thing!
And I totally get the strawberry thing...I have a little red pepper plant that sprouted a couple weeks ago (it's just in a tiny pot) and every day I check on it and fuss over it because I have such a struggle with growing plants. It looks so good and happy right now! If it actually makes it to the point where it produces peppers, they will be the best peppers EVER!!

I'm sorry your son was sick!! Yuck! I'm glad he's feeling better, though.

Slip n Slides are scary! When I was growing up, we just used tarps because my parents refused to spend money on yellow plastic. Tarps were almost better because twigs and rock didn't pierce through them as easily as the slip n slides.

That looks like so much fun! Glad your son is better (the wandering around saying "I am just in my underwear" is so endearing).

Glad y'all are over the flu. I am harvesting arugula now and have the same feeling where I can't believe that I actually am eating something that I grew. It is a good feeling!

Ok, I like that photo of you on the banzai slip and slide. Very balanced.

Two summers ago, I bought a Whamo! Slip & Slide (the basic original) to ring in the summer. Now that the rain is gone here (we hope), it will be nice to get it out of the storage shed and get some water fun with the family.

wafelenbak-I am just so proud that I grew food...you totally get it and I hope yours grows food too!

SM-that is a fantastic idea. We spent way too much on this piece of junk!

Sizzle-it was super adorable when he said it in his little confused voice.

jh-I grew lettuce too and have eaten it. Isn't it cool to grow food? I don't know why I find this so amazing, people have been doing it for quite a while now but I had no idea I could do it!

marty mankins-I was very much NOT balanced at any time I tried to use it. I thought I had pretty good balance but I guess I thought wrong. Slip & slides are cool but sort of scary too. I am cracking up because my twins had to read some paper about Whamo products and how they began. As I read your comment I remembered all sorts of facts we learned when we read it and answered the questions. Funny how I seem to remember their homework way more than they do!

I bet surfing would be so awesome. I am sure I would suck at it, but you seem to have real balance on that thing!

I'm thinking of you and your surgery.

And I'm also really impressed by the way you embrace life in the meantime, strawberries and all.

You rock. You really do!

So glad the little guy is better.

Hope you get a date soon. The unknown is sometimes worse than being able to plan.

LOL! Steven gets up in the middle of the night sometimes and strips down to his underoos. That would be so funny if he couldn't remember it. I am happy your son is feeling better.

Go you for trying the slip and slide! Sunday was great weather for it!

I am SUPER excited you grew those strawberries! AMAZING! I wish I grew strawberries!

Hi! I've been MIA so late in saying that I'm so sorry to hear of your latest medical news. I'll be thinking about you and sending well wishes your way!

kadonkadonk-I so do NOT have good balance on it. The pictures are totally deceiving because my son was awesome at it and I sucked but if you went by the pictures, you would think it was the other way around.

Heather of the EO-I am trying, I really am. It is hard to make things all normal and fun when you are nervous, but I am trying.

InTheFastLane-I have a tentative date but I don't like it so she is checking to see if there are any other ones available. I will let everyone know as soon as I know for sure.

kilax-I am growing tons of vegetables too. Remember the square foot garden I showed you when you were over? It is actually growing things! Nothing I can eat yet, but it is all growing!

sunshine-isn't this how we met in the first place? My ovary stuff? Who thought I would ever be back there again! And congratulations on your big news! I am so excited for you!

I am so happy the square foot garden is a success! :) I wish we had a yard to do that!
